Staying with the Trouble

“Staying with the Trouble” explores viruses as elements of evolution and their role in human life. The exhibition opened exactly one year after the WHO declared a pandemic and offered a new perspective on the pandemic. The exhibition is inspired by Donna Haraway's book of the same name, which advocates for a new way of looking at coexistence with different species on Earth. Through their artworks, the artists explore how viruses not only have a destructive effect but also offer transformative potential.

Moon Gallery, ISS Payload

Humanity is venturing beyond Earth, and art is following. The Moon Gallery Foundation has introduced the first extraterrestrial art gallery, expanding cultural boundaries to the Moon and the depths of space.
The “ISS Payload Gallery” exhibition, held from June 15 to 19, 2021, at AIR Gallery (ITMO, St. Petersburg), showcased a collection of miniature artworks that traveled to the International Space Station aboard the NG-17 spacecraft in February 2022. Moon Gallery brought together works by artists from 66 countries, selected through an open call. Among the contributors were renowned artists such as Marcus Neustetter and Eduardo Kac.
As part of the exhibition, a mini-conference was held with the support of GLEX 2021 – Global Space Exploration Conference and ITACCUS (IAF) – the International Astronautical Federation’s Technical Activities Committee for the Cultural Utilization of Space.

STAGE 2021

STAGE (Science & Technological Art Graduate Exhibition) is an annual festival presenting the graduate projects of the Art & Science master’s students. The presented works were created in a transdisciplinary logic and include biological research, technological experiments, and formal search.
It explored interactions that changed in 2020 from intimacy to distance, from touch to sight, and formed models of alternative ways of coexistence. The theatrical experience served as a metaphor for projects where the viewer crosses the boundary between fiction and reality. The exhibition proposed speculative scenarios of the future while maintaining a connection to the present and exploring utopian elements in everyday practices.

Grounding

The "Grounding" project was a part of the Ars Electronica festival, one of the largest global events in the field of Art, Science & Technology. In 2021, the theme of the festival, which for the first time united dozens of cities around the world, was "A New Digital Deal" and was dedicated to the challenges of digitalization for society.
The exhibition explored soil as a symbol of man's connection with the earth, contrasted with the digital reality dependent on rare earth resources. The exhibition included 19 works by artists from eight countries and took place at two venues.
At the Soil Science Museum, works of technological art complemented the classical exhibition, allowing visitors to feel, hear, and even taste the soil. The ITMO University art residence AIR presented interdisciplinary projects dedicated to the interaction of soil, people, and technology. The project program included two sound performances, an online conference, lectures, and master classes.
