The Grounding project is part of the Ars Electronica festival, one of the world's largest events in the field of technological art and science art. The Ars Electronica festival has been held in Linz since 1979. In 2020, Ars Electronica went beyond Linz for the first time - the festival events took place in dozens of cities around the world. The theme of Ars Electronica 2021 is 'A New Digital Deal': digitalization as a new challenge for society. In the context of rapid changes, when technologies are increasingly penetrating and transforming reality, the time has come to rethink the foundations of the unstable digital world and find a new point of support in it.
The exhibition includes 19 works by artists from eight countries. The object of the study was the soil as the opposite of the digital, the inextricable connection of man with the earth, which exists despite the emergence of new technologies, which, in turn, depend on the extraction of rare earth metals.
