The exhibition explores the co-evolution of visual and sound forms in contemporary art. "Modulations” focuses on a wide range of audiovisual practices: from classical mechanical experiments to projects created using scientific methodology. The art objects in the exhibition reveal the subtlety of the boundary between light, sound and movement. Many artists visualize this through finding their common ground in science and technology.
The possibility of synthesizing sound and form has fascinated artists, musicians, scientists and philosophers for centuries. Attempts to realize this idea have a long history: from the study of the physical properties of sound and the creation of light-musical instruments in the 18th and 19th centuries to the revolutionary developments of optoelectronic technologies and experimental art in the second half of the 20th century. Many artists have explored the dependence of image on sound and the possibility of expressing them in a unified form. These searches contributed greatly to the emergence of audiovisual art as a separate field.

Today, the ideas of synthesizing sound, image and movement are once again undergoing a revolutionary turn. The introduction of digital technologies and methods of natural sciences allows artists to open up new possibilities for this contemporary art form. The exhibition invites viewers to explore the variety of approaches that artists are taking today. In search of an answer to the question of the relationship between the form of an object and its sound, artists turn to sound experiments from the field of modern sciences (both natural and technical).
